Agility

Roxy and have completed our 3rd class in level 1 agility training. What fun. Roxy seems to really enjoy the activity. Our homework is going well with the sit and down stays, the walking and waiting, the touch exercises, and the quick downs. We were having difficulty with her walking on my right but I think we are getting past that now. One a problem we are trying to work out is walking the board, at the end of the board, Roxy turns toward me and her butt goes off the board. Maybe I need to stand at the end of the board so I'm facing her as she reaches the target area. We went to a CPE agility competition in Chula Vista today and observed our friend Marie and her dog Kendall run some of the trials. Marie knows what she's doing and Kendall looks great, what a beautiful animal! Looks like fun. I think we'll continue with the lessons and give it a try. We were also invited to check out fly ball with the team Fast Forward Fly ball, we may visit them on Wednesday night and see what their lessons and practice are like.
700 kids
What can you do with 700 elementry school kids? Have fun, nothing goes together better than K9 tricks and kids. Why dogs fly did a show for the Indian Hills elementary school yesterday and because I had the day off, I got to tag along. Al has the best job ever! We arrived at the school about 2 hours before curtain time to set up. It's amazing, when we were about one block from the school the team goes nuts (all except Al, he controls himself pretty well) George and Roxy started barking and Gracie began crying with excitement, HOW DO THEY KNOW?? They have never been to this school before! The dogs carry on like this just before we arrive at competitions also. Does anyone else see this with their dogs? if so, whats your guess on this behavior?

New season
Ok, here we go....the Disc dog season has begun!
We have had two competitions so far. The first competition was challenging for everyone with high winds blowing the discs in unexpected directions. I loved it. Being new to the game I could blame all mishaps on the wind. I guess I should say that the person writing this post is Pat, not Al. I played with Roxy and completed my first freestyle routine to "Going through Hell". Roxy and I had a blast. Al & George took 1st place and Al & Gracie took 2nd place. The second competition Roxy and I finished last. Oh well, we had fun. What was disappointing was that I forgot the only segment of the routine that Roxy & I do well. How does everyone remember what they want to do? I mean, with only 90 seconds and limited discs available, the clock is ticking down and your team mate is crazy barking and running circles around you, its totally nuts! I guess we need bit more practice, but just a bit, Roxy and I are in it for the fun!! Thats the best part of this sport, great people, great dogs, music and lots of smiles. I really can't think of many better ways to spend a Saturday, with the exception of going to the beach with my grandson, but we can do that on Sunday!
